Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) is planning to wage war on radio stations in Ibadan over their lacking of not paying royalties of musicians songs being played on their stations.
The chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji speaking today at the Stakeholders Forum of COSON in Ibadan, said that COSON is going to sue radio stations in Ibadan over lacking of royalties payment of musicians composition and musical work being played on their stations.
” As the revolution of COSON’s music being pay started five years ago in Nigeria, and we have distributed millions of royalties payment to various COSON , but it so sad that radio stations owners in Ibadan has not obliged with the historical agreement between COSON and Nigerian Broadcast Industry in 2014.
The only radio station in Ibadan that pay its royalties is Splash FM, even their baby sister station Lagelu FM is not paying their own royalties to COSON. Very soon COSON will sue all these radio stations that are playing musicians songs in their own profitable interest without paying royalties to all these musicians composition and musical work.
The ancient city of Ibadan has seen rapid growth of broadcasting channel in recent years with stations such as Beat FM, Naija FM, Lagelu FM, Fresh FM, Space FM, Star FM, Petals FM, Leed City FM, Raypower FM, Premier FM Ibadan, Diamond FM, Amuludun FM, Oluyole FM and others.
